Rain Paintings

By Jen Anderson, Publisher West Chester Macaroni Kid August 9, 2016
The next time you find yourself stuck inside with the kids on a rainy day, try making rain paintings. The finished products look bright and colorful, in contrast to the dreariness outside. Kids will enjoy watching them progress into "rainy masterpieces."

You will need:
Plain white paper plate (not coated) or card stock
Markers and/or food coloring
Trays, cutting board or other pan to hold your design
A rainy day

Instructions:
1. Using drops of food coloring or markers, create a design on your paper plate or card stock. Regular paper will also work, but may tend to tear once completely wet. If you use regular paper, handle with care.

2. Place designs outside in the rain and watch them change as the colors spread and blend. Place the designs near the door or window so you can observe them as they get wet.

3. Once the design looks finished to you, carefully bring it inside. The tray will be wet, so be careful as you set it on the counter (or other spot) to dry. Be careful not to leave your design outside for too long or it might get completely washed off!

4. Hang your dry, finished projects up to display. You can also use them to create cards or other artwork. They would be beautiful in a frame too!
